FROM VOLUNTEERS

This lady’s husband and others like him paid a real high price so we can live under [the American flag]…If we did this kind of work every weekend of the year, we wouldn’t make a dent in what we owe them.
::  Sheila McGill

It takes just a little bit of know-how and good ol’ elbow grease to make a big difference for these folks who have spent their whole lives serving their country.
::  Chuck Walls

It’s fun because you get out of class to help other people.
::  Anthony Hamilton (age 16)

This was a fulfilling experience for me. My grandfather, father, and stepfather were all in the military. It was good to give back to the veterans in their time of need.
::  Lee Jernigan

Many of our veterans have suffered physical or mental handicaps. So it was great to give something back to them for all that they have done for us.
::  Cheri Johnson

It is a real privilege to be able to serve these families who have sacrificed so much for our nation. This project…serves as a wonderful leadership and team building opportunity.
::  Chip Torbert

This is a labor of love.
::  Sue Ginter

This means a lot to me because I served in the U.S. Army for 20 years. Knowing we were coming to work on a veteran’s home is an incredible feeling….Working on veterans’ homes is a small thing compared to what they have done for us.
::  Luther Rutledge

I am very glad I participated. I’m a former veteran of the U.S. Army and it meant a lot to me to give back to an Army family.
::  Tim Sanders

I had a great time….I was personally touched when the owner…expressed her appreciation to all the people working on her house. She was truly grateful.
::  Suzanne Kump

I believe [this program]…can demonstrate to needy veterans and their spouses that we care–that we appreciate what they have done.  ::  Ralph Puckett
One of the most personally rewarding projects for me…EVER!!!
::  Linda McLemore

FROM CORPORATE AND GOVERNMENT LEADERS

Serving as a volunteer with House of Heroes is an extremely rewarding experience.  Thanking those that have served our country is a responsibility that we all bear.  House of Heroes makes giving back to these veterans possible through their program.  As a volunteer you are able to make a difference in a veterans life by improving the place that they call home.  I have volunteered with the House of Heroes for 7 years now and each year I become more excited to meet the veteran, learn their story, and assess how we can improve their home.  When we leave at the end of the day, the gratitude on their face is well worth the hours spent.  We can never repay these heroes for all that they’ve done for us, but volunteering our time to them is a good place to start. ::  Kristi Dodelin, Wells Fargo

All of this labor has helped to lighten the burdens they [the veterans] now carry in this life. The work…is not charity by any means. It is repayment of the debt that we owe…to all Americans who have earned the honored title of veteran.
::  Leo S. MacKay, Jr., Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs

This has been one of the most wonderful days that many of us have ever spent.
::  Mike Butler, President & CEO, CharBroil

[Being able to help] may be the greatest blessing to all those who have done the work.
::  Steve Butler, Chairman & CEO, W.C. Bradley

Repairing these homes is nothing compared to the sacrifices our veterans made for our freedom. Everyone should be influenced by the awesome deeds House of Heroes does for our community and our country.
::  Jim Blanchard, Chairman & CEO, Synovus

The House of Heroes program relies on people who volunteer their services to repair and improve the home of a veteran and/or their spouse as an act of appreciation from the Congress of the United States and people of this nation.
::  Max Cleland, Former U.S. Senator

Giving back to those who gave for us is certainly a win-win situation.
::  Mac Collins, U.S. Congressman

…I am honored to extend my sincere gratitude and appreciation to them [veterans and their spouses] and all the volunteers…
::  Zell Miller, U.S. Senator
